Plaster Forms

You can pour a portable form right on the site using quick-set gypsum, plaster of paris, or any other quick-drying plaster or cement material. If our arch is small, as for a doorway, the form can be made in one piece; if the arch is large, it can be made in two pieces for easy handling.

1. Draw the top line of the arch right on the ground.

2. Draw a 15-centimeter- (6 inch- ) smaller arch inside.

3. Lay two rows of dry adobes tightly next to each other on both the outer and inner edges of the arch. This will be our mold.

4. Pour some sand, straw, or sawdust, or lay a piece of newspaper in the bottom and edges of the form, so that the gypsum or plaster of paris won't stick to the ground or the sides.

5. Pour the gypsum or plaster of paris into the mold and smooth out the top.

6. To make two half-arch forms, for easy handling, put a piece of narrow board at the top.
